Is there a native population or art scene around here that inspired you?Ī: Fitchburg was a big influence on me for sure, it’s my hometown I love it all of the history, brick buildings and the attitude getting into fights at BF Brown, running through the woods at Crocker Elementary, going to the huge Fitchburg Public Library and even going to see the lady at the Fitchburg Art Museum that did the Egyptian thing for, like, 20 years for school kids getting my bike stolen every year and spotting pieces of it riding around the neighborhood on other bikes, smashing street lights, skateboarding in abandoned factories Club 490 and to hardcore and the best collection of freaks and creative people that definitely inspired and shaped me. ![]() Q: Growing up in Fitchburg makes your career interesting to Sentinel & Enterprise readers. He was originally from King Island and as a kid I would sit and watch him carve for hours. Did he live in the area?Ī: Yes, my uncle was a huge influence on me. I taught myself knife-making online and I like it, but mostly I was doing it to make money. Q: Did you move to Seattle area to pursue art?Ī: Knife-making came after boat-building and I was doing both art and knife making at the same time. Sean Gallagher is a visual artist and traditional watercraft vessel builder who specializes in carving, two- and three-dimensional art in multiple mediums. The first artist in this series grew up in Fitchburg and moved to Gardner in his high school years. This series will attempt to showcase a few amazing artists who grew up in the area and migrated to larger audiences, finding success in their field. With our industrial roots, the twin cities aren’t always thought of when it comes to the arts. Music, visual art, dance, culinary art and design all creep into our lives without stepping foot into a museum proof that art is all around us.
